This Privacy Policy explains how Datetris ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application and website at datetris.date (together, the "Service"). We aim to keep this in plain English. If anything is unclear, email datetris@pm.me.
Who we are
Datetris is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service. You can contact us about anything in this policy at datetris@pm.me.
What we collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your name (or chosen display name), email address, date of birth, gender, and the password you set. We use date of birth to confirm you are 18 or over.
Profile information
You may choose to add photos, a bio, interests, occupation, education, and other details to your profile. Anything you add to your profile is visible to other users.
Messages and activity
We store the messages you send and receive through the Service so we can deliver them. We also keep records of matches, likes, and other actions so the app works.
Location
If you grant location permission, we use your approximate location to show you nearby matches. You can turn this off in your device settings at any time.
Payment information
If you subscribe, payment is handled by Google Play (Android) or Apple (iOS). We do not see or store your full payment card details.
Device and usage information
We automatically collect basic technical data: device type and operating system, app version, IP address, crash logs, and how you use the Service.
Communications with us
If you email us for support, we keep your messages and our replies so we can help you and keep a record.
Register Interest form
If you submit the Register Interest form on our website, we collect your name, email address, and any optional message you provide. We use these only to email you when Datetris launches and, if you ask a question, to reply. You can request deletion of this data at any time at datetris@pm.me.
How we use your data
- To create and run your account.
- To match you with other users and deliver messages.
- To verify you are 18 or over.
- To keep the Service safe — detecting abuse, fake accounts, breaches of our Terms.
- To process your subscription.
- To respond to your support questions.
- To improve the Service (analytics, bug fixes, new features).
- To comply with legal obligations.
Legal bases (UK and EU)
Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, we rely on:
- Contract — to deliver the Service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service safe, prevent fraud, improve features.
- Consent — for things like location access and optional marketing emails.
- Legal obligation — when we have to keep or share data because the law requires it.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these limited cases:
- Service providers — companies that help us run the Service (cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting, email delivery, payment processing).
- Other users — your profile information and messages you send are visible to the users you interact with.
- Legal requests — if we are legally required to disclose data, we will. We push back on overbroad requests.
- Business changes — if Datetris is acquired or merged, your data may be transferred.
International transfers
Our service providers may be located outside the UK or EU. When data is transferred internationally, we use safeguards required by law.
How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep some records for legal reasons.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data:
- Access the data we hold about you.
- Correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your data.
- Object to or restrict how we use your data.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for any processing based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email datetris@pm.me.
UK and EU users
You have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or your local EU data protection authority.
California users
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of any sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information.
How we protect your data
We use HTTPS for all data in transit. Passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing. On iOS, sensitive credentials are kept in the system Keychain.
Children
Datetris is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, email datetris@pm.me.
Cookies and similar technologies
The Datetris website uses minimal cookies. The mobile app uses standard mobile identifiers only if required for crash reporting and analytics, and only with the permissions you grant.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
